Данное лицо может прибегнуть к собственной программе вне зависимости от того, участвует ли его работодатель в системе пенсионного обеспечения по месту работу (occupational pension scheme) или нет. Личная пенсионная программа предусматривает выплату половины пенсии данного лица в случае его смерти супруге (супругу). Личная пенсионная программа подлежит утверждению Управлением пенсионного обеспечения по месту работы до того, как данное лицо откажется от участия в Государственной пенсионной программе “в зависимости от доходов”. Государственная пенсионная программа “в зависимости от доходов”
Британская государственная пенсионная программа, введенная в 1978 г., в соответствии с которой каждый работающий получает дополнительную пенсию помимо государственной пенсии, начисляемой по единообразной ставке. Эта дополнительная пенсия выплачивается за счет части платежей в систему национального страхования, которые производили лица наемного труда и работодатели. Выплата пенсии начинается по достижении официального пенсионного возраста (65 лет для мужчин и 60 лет для женщин), а сумма пенсии рассчитывается по формуле, в основе которой лежит процент от доходов лица. Лица, не желающие получать пенсию по программе “в зависимости от дохода”, имеют право подписаться на пенсионную программу по месту работы (occupational pension scheme) или на личную пенсионную программу (personal pension scheme).
